AFRICA AMERICAN INSTITUTE (AAI) HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING (AHET) PROGRAMS
|
Africa American Institute's (AAI) Higher Education and Training (AHET) Programs help facilitate higher education, professional training and skills-building courses in critical fields such as agriculture, education, public health, natural resource management, business and public administration. Through AHET, the AAI works with partners from the academic, private and public sectors to administer programs which enable African students to pursue bachelor's, advanced degrees (e.g., masters, and PhD) at US, African and other universities throughout the world.
AAI, founded in 1953, has been the Southern Africa region International Partner for the Ford Foundation-funded International Fellowships Program (IFP) since 2002. IFP Southern Africa provides opportunities for up to three years of formal graduate-level study leading to a master's or PhD degree. AAI recruits, supports and evaluates IFP Fellows from the Southern Africa region, administering this $2.1 million program from its South Africa and Mozambique offices.
IFP Southern Africa provided scholarships for 300 Fellows from Southern Africa to study at institutions around the world between 2002 and 2007, with an additional 41 Fellows supported in 2008. IFP Fellows may study any academic discipline related to the Ford Foundation's three grant-making areas: asset building and community development; education, media, arts and culture; and peace and justice.
